The deadline for applying to be a torchbearer has passed.

As soon as the Beijing Olympic Committee finalizes the selection process, the complete list of Torchbearers will be posted here!

Instructions / Rules:

- Applications must be received before February 3, 2008.

- Completely fill in your personal information. Incomplete applications will be automatically disqualified.

- Must be 14 years of age (born before August 8, 1994). If the Torchbearer is less than 18 years of age, a guardian consent form must be signed.

- Must be a legal resident of the US, Canada or Mexico

- Must be physically able to complete the task of carrying the Olympic Flame a designated distance.

- Write an essay of 200 words or less that speaks to one of the following:

- What sustains you on your personal journey for excellence?
- How is your personal journey making your community, your country, and the world more sustainable?
- What are you doing to contribute to San Francisco’s sustainable journey?
- Why should you be considered to carry the Olympic Torch in San Francisco?

Judging Criteria

All applications received will be reviewed by an independent judging panel selected by the Event Organizers. Those applications deemed most  appropriate and compelling by the panel will be considered finalists and forwarded to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG). BOCOG has sole discretion to select Torchbearers.

Other Considerations

All costs of travel, food and lodging are the sole responsibility of selected finalists. By participating in this application and selection process,  applicants agree to abide by and be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges, which are final in all matters relating to this opportunity. By accepting this opportunity to bear the Olympic  Torch, finalists waive the right to contest  the Event Organizer's selection process, the decision of the judges in choosing Torchbearers and the Event Organizer's determination either of eligibility to participate or disqualification thereof.
